DAY 6 - Thursday July 18 - What an amazing day and awesome God! Today was another busy day, as some of our group went to a children's chool for special needs and public clinic in French Harbor and the rest of us helped set up for the God's girls program. Some with educational experience went to the Cattleya special needs school. One of the young women on our team is a special needs teacher also. She told me that she went in expecting to give tips to the teachers, but them interacting with the kids in a highly professional manner, to North American standards (but with a LOT less money)! Parents pay $75 a month. Our team had prepared 28 bags for the kids, and it turns out that between the morning and afternoon sessions, that is exactly thè number of kids who are there! This group also went to a public clinic in French Harbor. It was even worse than the hospital!! - DG
But Jesus said, Suffer the little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for to such belongeth the kingdom of heaven. - Matthew 19:14
The men went to a nearby soccer field to run Sons of the Kingdom - a soccer tournament outreach. At least 200 enthusiastic boys ages 10-15 showed up for their passion of football. They all played competitively, but no fights. The highlight though was when Shadram, a young man from Connecticut gave his testimony. Those kids were just riveted, and when he gave an altar call, at least half the hands went up, and then those boys went forward to pray (with Spanish translation) to receive Christ as Savior! It was spine-tingling to see 100 souls enter the Kingdom at once!!! What an awesome God we serve!! Wow!!! - DG
Rebuild - Repair - Restore is the theme for this year's mission. This had been laid on Tia Darla's heart over half a year ago when she went to the Lord in prayer for what the team would do on this year's trip. During the final match of the older group of boys, one of the coaches who was in attendance asked me about the work that we were doing. He was very interested to partner with us for the future to organize all the soccer teams on the island and even some on the mainland for a tournament to reach them for Christ. It was evident that not only were the boys intently listening to what was being spoken, but many of the parents were, as well. Praise the Lord if it is His will to use the work being done in Roatan to restore the country for Him!!! - DC
In the afternoon, at the same time as the men were running the soccer tournament, the women were hosting God's Girls, for ages 9-12. The girls on the island are not affirmed or encouraged, and have such a poor image of themselves, ripe for abuse! Our team poured out love and encouragement on them. One little girl with beautiful hazel eyes and a bright smile was absolutely convinced she was ugly! Pray for these girls that they really would see themselves as God's Girls!
Tomorrow is a quieter day, with a trip to a private beach in the afternoon. The evening will be the first night of a two-night marriage seminar. - DG
Prayer requests:
• Praise for the amazing response of the boys this afternoon!
• For safety and restored strength in our relaxing time tomorrow.
• We are set for 85 couples tomorrow night - pray that even more will come out, and that marriages will be rebuilt and restored to God's pattern.
